It’s Time for Organizations to Reduce Diabetes

For decades, organizations have purchased and offered benefits to employees and their families. Many organizations offer dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, paid vacation leave, personal leave, sick leave, child care, fitness, a retirement plan, and other optional benefits offered to employees and their families.

Despite crisis-level impacts to organizations and families, Diabetes Management is often buried in the minutia of employee benefits, if offered at all. Few organizations know the costs and even fewer address the crisis. According to the American Diabetes Association, the total cost of diabetes exceeds $327 Billion and has increased 25% between 2012 and 2017. Just in metro Philadelphia there are 27,955 new cases of diabetes every year. For an organization covering 10,000 lives, they have 930 persons with diabetes, 2,582 with pre-diabetes and are experiencing 46 cases of newly diagnosed diabetes annually.

Today, organizations can purchase best-in-class Diabetes Management services directly from the Signature Diabetes Institute (“SDI”) for employees within 35-40 miles of our headquarters in Feasterville, Pennsylvania.

SDI delivers a 94% prevention rate in the population with pre-diabetes. A 94% rate is staggering against a 62% national prevention rate for bona-fide diabetes management programs.

But most organizations do little or nothing for employees and their families to prevent diabetes even though the return on investment exceeds 100%, an immediate one-year payback.

Simply put, a 94% prevention rate delivers incredible human kindness. For a pilot of 100-lives with pre- diabetes, 94 won’t get diabetes. For anyone that’s experienced the devastation of diabetes, 94 out of 100 lives not getting diabetes is priceless.

Your organization’s benefit leaders, benefit brokers and HR professionals should attend an upcoming meeting or contact us to learn how your organization can immediately reduce diabetes.
